The erotic dance music of the bordello found its way into the respectable salons of Parisian society and the inner sanctum of the chancel with the evolution of Astor Piazzolla’s fusion of classical and jazz forms known as tango nuevo. We are excited to welcome charismatic mezzo-soprano and CBC Radio host Julie Nesrallah to perform Misa a Buenos Aires, a setting of the traditional Catholic Mass that explodes with exuberance and the aching melancholy that is at the very soul of the tango.
Also on the program, a Magnificat by Stephen Chatman (1950–) nominated for Best Classical Composition at the 2014 JUNO Awards.
